SHRINKAGE LIMIT SET

Standards: IS 2720 (PART-VII) ASTM D 427, BS 1377, AASHTO T 92.

Shrinkage Limit Set, which is used to check the maximum amount of water content that a soil can withhold without causing a substantial change in the volume of the soil mass at hand. It is at the shrinkage limit after which, on further reduction, the air enters into the voids, thereby keeping the volume constant. It helps in defining the characteristics of the cohesive soils which is very difficult to find. The apparatus is used to calculate the volumetric shrinkage, shrinkage maximum value, shrinkage index, and shrinkage ration, all of which can be derived from the shrinkage limit. In simple terms, it is used to find the utmost moisture content of the soil up till it does not get shrunk. The model adheres to the IS 2720 (PART-VII) ASTM D 427, BS 1377, AASHTO T 92.
